What is the Best Office Laptop?

If you are looking for a laptop with the intention to use it primarily as an office laptop, you will need to be aware of a few features that might come in handy when choosing which laptop to buy.

The biggest mistake people make when buying an office laptop is that they spend way too much money on a laptop that is far too powerful to only be used for office applications. Office applications are among the least demanding of computer programs mainly because they have not changed much in the last 10 years. For this reason even the least powerful of today's laptops will not even break a sweat when running these types of programs. We therefore recommend that you should look at the cheapest end of the laptop price range.

Any single core processor and 1GB or more of memory will be plenty of power for your needs. You are unlikely to need much hard drive space so 80GB or larger hard drives should be more than enough.

An important feature of for office laptops is reliability as there is nothing worse than loosing your work and vital documents due to a computer failure. For this reason we recommend you stick with the leading laptop manufactures including Acer, Apple, Asus, Compaq, Dell, HP, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, etc. Of course, no manufacturer is perfect and you should always back up any important files.

Office applications usually involve a lot of typing so take some time to ensure that the laptop keyboard is a comfortable layout and is something that you can get used to. If you plan to require a lot of numerical data entry make sure your laptop has a number pad on its keyboard, and if not consider buying an external USB keyboard.

If you will need good mobility from your laptop you should not consider larger 17 inch laptops as they are just too big to carry around with you. Of course with you want to do some graphic design work where a large screen is useful you might want to consider a 17 inch screen. Most office laptops should be ideal with 15 or 14 inch screens but I would not go below 13 inch laptops as the screen size makes it harder to see your work. Most office laptops will last around 3 hours or more on a charge with the standard 4 or 6 cell battery, but if you require more battery life make sure you get a 9 cell battery with your laptop.
