All Laptop Computers Are Not Made the Same

Computers have become an item that each household must have for many reasons. They convenient ways in which to organize households, pay bills, shop, study, listen to music and even watch television shows. An innovative way to complete all of these tasks is with a laptop computer. These computers are mobile, small, powerful and portable.

However, all laptop computers are not built the same. There are differences that you need to be aware of in your buying decision. This will permit you to buy the best one for your needs.

There are several important aspects to think about when you are buying a laptop computer. One of these aspects is the laptop battery life. Because laptop computers are so mobile, you will not always have electrical power. I used mine every night with my with wife as she was driving to law school. I can tell you that there is nothing more annoying than working on a project and having your laptop tell you that you have five minutes of battery power left. I have found that Lithium batteries work better than the Nickel Cadmium batteries. I have also found that you can actually 'train' your batter to have a good memory effect.

Battery memory affect is the length of time a battery will work before it needs recharged. The battery 'learns' such period of time through how you use it. If you repeatedly use your laptop for one hour and then charge it, its battery will learn to stay strong for only one hour. Using a Lithium battery and using it until it is almost dead and then recharging it will greatly increase the period of time that the battery will stay strong. Please make sure to read the manufacturer owners manual to also find out more about the battery life.

When shopping for a laptop, consider what type and especially size of screen you would like. Larger screens with more definition will cost you more. But, I have found that such price is well worth the cost. It is simply much more enjoyable to use a clear and resolute screen. This is especially true for me as I just hit 50 and need glasses now to simply read the newspaper.

Additionally with larger screens, you will find that you usually get a bigger and better keyboard. My wife has a small net book that is fine for her small fingers but it is very difficult for people with larger fingers such as myself to type on it. Try to actually see, feel and touch the laptop that you are possibly choosing before you but it.

Please do not forget to think about the hard drive. A large hard drive is great. This is especially true when computer programs and their files keep getting bigger and bigger. Additionally, with such large data on it, a larger hard drive will worker more quickly than a smaller capacity hard drive. Moreover, you just never want to run out of memory on your computer.

A word about RAM memory. Having a lot of RAM memory will increase the speed at which your laptop computer operates. RAM is like a working drawing board for the computer. The more projects that are running then the more RAM or drawing board room your computer will need. Adding more RAM is a low cost method to making your computer run more quickly.

Faster processors will make your computer faster as well. A fast processor can cost a lot of money as they are expensive. But, I have a little trick to buying processors.

The top of the line processor will be one that you do not want, unless money is no object to you. See, when a new, fast processor comes out, it is very expensive. Everyone wants to get their hands on it thus, increasing demand and price. It is akin to buying a new model automobile. I have found that purchasing the second or even third fastest processor will give you great operating speed without draining your bank account. There simply is much less demand for them, and as such, lower prices.

You should also discuss what types of future potential upgrade ability that you can make to your computer. You may want to add an additional drive to it. Without such capability, you are locked in with whatever components are present on your computer.

Learn about the warranty offered for the laptop as well as the procedure by which you can get it fixed. Accidents really do happen and computers cost a lot of money. Make sure that you purchase a good warranty. I also recommend to find out the warranty procedure because having your computer shipped off for repair for over a month is ridiculous. This happened to me once and I will never use that guarantor company again. You can also purchase warranties from third parties if your manufacturer warranty and procedure lack good coverage and return time.

Shopping for a new laptop computer is exciting. Remember to use and review the aspects that were written here. They will help you choose the best laptop computer out of all laptop computers.
