The Laptop History

As the name itself speaks, laptop is a portable computer, which is designed for use in the lap. It also bears the name, notebook or notebook computer. As compared to a desktop, it is easy to carry around places, especially while traveling to long distances. It weighs around 2 to 18 pounds depending on its size and associated parts. It appears smaller than the desktop. A laptop works on one battery. 

Capability

Laptop is a personal computer (PC), which is capable of performing routine office tasks as a desktop computer normally does. It has the components that resemble a desktop PC. Laptop is a user-friendly electronic device. It has a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and the memory module differs from one to another. Unlike desktop computers, laptops have a built-in keyboard and a touch pad in place of the ordinary mouse for data input or navigation.
 
History

In 1981, Osborne 1 was the first available laptop, which worked on the operating system, CP/M. It was heavy comparing to a present day laptop. It had a tiny Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitor. In addition, working professionals benefited from its use, as it offered to carry their data along with them to places. 

Osborne 1, as an itinerant laptop, was easy to carry on commercial aircrafts. It did not work on batteries. The laptop worked on supply through the mains. With progress in Technology Laptop from Compaq, which took place in 1983.

Also in 1983, a typical electronic machine looked great sales success largely to the market. It 'was the Epson HX-20. It 'was a portable computer, the full-keyboard with 68 keys Transit on them. The batteries are nickel-cadmium, had the computer with an LCD display with four lines of text content. It contained a BASIC interpreter with 16 kilo bytes of RAM (Random Access).

Other popularlaptops were the Gavilan SC and Sharp PC-5000 introduced to the world in 1984. The Gavilan SC had a pointing device such as the touchpad above the keyboard. Both these laptops were IBM-compatible, even though they ran on different operating systems. These laptops had LCD screens and were connectible to external printers or other devices.

Technological Progress

Recently, many computer manufacturers make available laptops at amazingly affordable costs. These travel-friendly electronic devices are suitable for businesspersons and executives. Almost every laptop available supports the Linux and Microsoft Windows operating system.
